When we plan and act in the infrastructural context of the highly secure data center CITA, we always keep the following equation in mind:

Security = Protection + Availability + Redundancy + Capacity

This applies to buildings in the same way as to building services engineering, network connectivity, hardware, and – if provided by us – software.

Our modern and highly secure infrastructure is based on solid ground: the former Government Bunker of the land of Baden-Württemberg. The complex, which was constructed in the early 70s of the 20th century, was designed to ensure the survival and capacity to govern of the most important executive organs of the country in the case of a nuclear war. On an area of about twenty acres, several buildings were constructed, the safest of which has been the fallout shelter itself.

When COMback took this area over, the buildings were completely modernized and modified for their new usage. In particular, the building services engineering was made redundant throughout, state-of-the-art network connectivity was provided with practically unlimited bandwidth, and the monitoring of the buildings was brought up to date with the standards and regulations in the areas of access control, resistance against attacks, and fire protection. We are always aware, however, that whatever we achieve can only be the preliminary stage to something of higher value. Our infrastructure team is always striving to achieve improvements, without losing sight of profitability in their pursuit of perfection.

Without safety, man cannot exercise his strength nor enjoy the fruit thereof;
for without safety, there is no freedom.
