COMBACK Tape Libraries now certified for GRAU DATA XtreemStore software

Schwäbisch-Gmünd, April 30, 2025 – GRAU DATA has certified COMBACK’s ARION Tape Library for its scalable object storage software XtreemStore. This enables companies and organizations to store their archive data quickly, easily, and, above all, with a low total cost of ownership on COMBACK tape systems with XtreemStore.

The GRAU DATA XtreemStore and COMBACK LTO Tape Libraries solutions combine the simplicity of an S3 cloud interface with the low operating costs of LTO tapes. This provides companies and organizations with an alternative to expensive cloud solutions that simultaneously ensures scalability and data sovereignty.

Solution Combination Made in Germany

COMBACK distributes its German-made tape libraries worldwide through distribution partners. GRAU DATA has developed XtreemStore, a third-generation object-oriented archiving software. XtreemStore has implemented an S3 Glacier interface, allowing all S3 Glacier-certified applications to archive data to tape. XtreemStore is an extremely scalable software for archiving billions of objects. It writes TAR containers to LTFS, a global standard that makes customers independent of archiving software in the long term.

XtreemStore also supports file versioning and ObjectLock, thus meeting potential compliance requirements.
The close cooperation between GRAU DATA and COMBACK now enables customers to install a true on-premises S3 to tape solution. Data remains under the customer’s control while simultaneously reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO).

The COMBACK ARION is a scalable rackmounted tape library that can be fully expanded to accommodate up to 640 tape slots with 16 LTO-FH drives. The tape library is ideal for long-term storage, archiving, and backup of large amounts of data. It supports both full-height and half-height LTO drives.
